THINGS WE MISS ABOUT TRAVELING

The ability to travel freely and safely has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic; particularly, international travel. Though we know for sure that better days are ahead, we have been feeling quite nostalgic, and miss the following things about traveling:

THE HUMAN CONNECTION

Traveling helps to nurture human connections. When you are on a trip, whether solo, in a pair or in a group, you get to experience human connection in profound ways. It could be as simple as an authentic smile or nod you share with a flight attendant as you step into the plane, or an hour-long private dinner you share with your spouse on a Greek Island that helps to deepen your bond. Whatever it is, traveling helps human connections thrive, and in this season of social distancing and isolation, we can’t help but yearn for human connections.

PACKING

Now, I know you may be side-eyeing us on this one but hear us out. We love going on vacations, traveling to new places, but the inevitable act of packing that comes along with it, is something we often dread. There’s the typical trouble of, “What should I pack?”  “What should I NOT pack?” “Did I pack everything?”. How tedious as packing can be, it gives you a sense of excitement because it reminds you that your trip is right around the corner. But in these unusual times, we are in, we can’t help but look forward to the days when we will be able to pack our bags again. We miss it. We miss all the craziness of packing that comes with traveling from place to place.

BEING IN A DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT

One of the many things about traveling is that you get to spend time away in a different environment. Usually, somewhere far away from worries and our daily stresses. A place that allows us to escape reality and pretend that we live in paradise forever while we are away. #Quarantined life really makes us miss these wonderful moments. We find ourselves reminiscing about the time when we used to be able to do so freely and as often as we wanted to.

EXPERIENCING OF  NEW CULTURES

Traveling to new places whether domestically or internationally affords you the opportunity to experience cultures different from your own. For example, if you traveled to Dakar, Senegal, you would experience their very public and communal beach work-out culture, something you might not experience somewhere else. From fitness to food to fashion to anything else, traveling exposes us to new and different ways of doing things, and that’s just one more thing we miss about it!
